Due Date Automations

Due date automations

Board Automations now support a new trigger type: Due Date. Automatically take action before tasks are due or after they become overdue.

#What You Can Do

  • Send reminder notifications before tasks are due
  • Email notifications when tasks become past due
  • Escalate overdue tasks by changing priority
  • Reassign tasks that have been overdue too long
  • Add tags like "Overdue" or "Escalated" automatically

#How It Works

  1. Go to Board Settings → Automation
  2. Click + Add Automation
  3. Select Due Date as the trigger
  4. Configure the condition:
    • Before Due - triggers X days before the due date (for reminders)
    • Past Due - triggers X days after the due date (for escalation)
  5. Set up actions:
    • Send Notification - email Board Owner, Task Owner, or Assignee
    • Update Task - change priority, status, assignee, or tags

#Example Use Cases

  • 2 days before due → Send reminder to Assignee
  • 1 day past due → Email Board Owner
  • 3 days past due → Set priority to High
  • 7 days past due → Reassign to manager and add "Escalated" tag

#Automate Your Project Management Workflows

Deadline management is one of the most critical aspects of project management. Overdue tasks can cascade into missed milestones, unhappy clients, and stressed teams. Due date automations help project managers stay ahead of problems instead of reacting to them.

For agile teams running sprints, these automations ensure blockers get visibility before they derail the iteration. For client-facing teams, automatic escalation keeps stakeholders informed without manual check-ins. And for any team juggling multiple projects, automation removes the overhead of tracking every deadline manually.

Combined with task reminders, you have a complete toolkit for proactive deadline management.
