Hidden Form Fields

hidden form fields

Board Forms get a new Hidden field type. It never shows up for submitters - its value rides in from the form link or falls back to a default you set, so every submission arrives with context like where it came from or which customer sent it.

#How It Works

  • Filled from the link: add the field's query parameter to the form URL, like ?source=newsletter or ?customer-id=4821. The builder shows each hidden field's parameter name right on its card
  • Default value: set a fallback, like website, so a plain link without parameters still records something
  • Mapped like any answer: map a hidden field to a text custom property to make it filterable on your board, or leave it unmapped to land in the task description
  • Out of the way: hidden fields are never required or conditional, don't add a step to the interactive layout, and can't turn an empty form into a submission - the submitter still answers at least one visible question
  • Admin-only defaults: the default value is applied on the server and never sent to the public form page

#Why It Matters

Intake without context means detective work later. When the same request form is linked from your website, a newsletter, an in-app help menu, and a partner portal, a hidden Source field tells you which channel actually brings in the bug reports, leads, or feature requests - no extra question for the submitter, no guessing for the team triaging the queue. Marketing teams can tag campaigns, agencies can track which client portal a request came from, and product teams can pass a user or account ID straight from their app, so support can follow up without asking "which account is this?".

#Getting Started

  1. Open a form in the builder (or create one)
  2. Add a field and set its type to Hidden
  3. Give it a label like "Source" and, optionally, a default value
  4. Share the form with ?source=your-value appended - the prefill link builder assembles these links for you
